5 Mistakes You're Making on Your Website

There are so many things to know when you’re building a website, with our years of experience, we’ve listed out 5 things to help you fine tune your site for better performance.

1 - Not promoting your site

This is one of the biggest misconceptions that we see when when chatting about websites. It’s a common belief that having a website will bring you customers. Unless you’re a gun at SEO (or hire someone to do this for you), your website won’t bring you customers without promoting it.

There are many ways to promote your website and business …
* Online using paid advertising such as search, YouTube, social media
* Online using SEO, email, content marketing, influencers and affiliates
* Offline using networking, tv, radio, newspapers magazines

To get the best out of your website and marketing, speak to a marketing specialist, who can work within your budget, to create a strategy and a plan to promote your business.

2 - Not being clear about what you offer, who it’s for, and how they can buy from you

You only have a very short amount of time to capture the interest of visitors to your website. Visitors spend only a few seconds to evaluate whether your Business can meet the requirements and answer the questions that they're looking for.

Look at your website and see if in 3 seconds a visitor can tell what you offer, whether it’s for them, and how they buy from you. A one liner statement that covers off these three things at the start of you site is an easy way to do this.

3 - Not using a call to action

What do you want your visitors to do? Are you telling them what next step to take? You need to tell them what you want them to do on every page of your site.

You might want them to …

  • call now for a free consult,
  • read your case studies,
  • join your newsletter,
  • buy now,
  • book a time,
  • download a white paper,
  • subscribe to your blog, or newsletter
  • follow on socials,
  • request a quote and so on.

A good call to action tells them what to do, and provides the motivation for them to do it.

4 - To check that your site is working on mobile

If you’ve got an older site, check it works on mobile. A simple test of loading it up on your phone and see how each of the pages look and work.

If you’ve got a new site, it’s still worth checking on mobile periodically. Website software, plugins and theme updates can break the layout of your site, or content may have changed, and that may have left your site not working properly on mobile.

5 - Forgetting about your website

Many of us are guilty of this. Putting up our site, and then forgetting about it. What we want you to think about, is whether your website is putting forward the best impression of your business.

There are two parts to this. The first is regularly reviewing your site to ensure it’s up to date and that all of the information is relevant, and your links and forms work.

The second is knowing that regular content updates, support articles, how-tos, videos, blog posts, frequently asked questions all support your customers in deciding to buy from you. Adding to your site regularly, gives you material to promote on socials and the power to capture new leads AND tells Google that it’s an active site—which Google likes.

Why don’t you sit down with a cuppa and spend 10 mins going over your site to see how it stacks up against these common mistakes?
